ALPHABET OF TOLERANCE II

In December 2002 «Hajde da...» Group successfully finished «Alphabet of Tolerance» program implementation in 'Stari Grad' Primary School. This program that had got credentials of Ministry of Education, consists of 12 workshops. Its aim is to provide basic knowledge and experience of tolerance for differences to participants. It is aimed to induce cooperation and mutual respect within class, as well. Workshops were carried out once a week during three months. All fifth, sixth and seventh grade pupils were included.

We would like to thank 'Stari Grad' Primary School for help and cooperation during Program implementation.

PEACE EDUCATION FOR SCOUT LEADERS

In December 2002 «Hajde da...» training team (Marko, Suza, Darko) delivered a training for Scout Leaders aimed at gaining peace education knowledge and group work methodology tools. The training included various topics, e.g. Teamwork, Non-violent Communication, Violence & Non-violence, Prejudices, Discrimination, Learning in Groupwork, Methods and Activities, Group Leader's Role etc.
It was also an opportunity for the Scouts to be introduced with the content of the Socouts Training Manual designed by «Hajde da...» group. The final version of the Manual will be finished soon and its publication may be expected during 2003.

The whole project was financially supported by Catholic Relief Services.

TRAINING FOR PSYCHO-SOCIAL WORK III

 

During November and December 2002 third Training for Psycho-Social Work with Groups of Children and Young People was realized in Belgrade. The training was organized as an integral part of “Capacity building program 2002/2003”. Most of the participants were activists/volunteers from local NGOs but there were also participants who are professionally dealing with problems of children and young people through various forms of education and activities. Topics treated during Training are relevant for psycho-social work within NGOs.

Implementation of gained knowledge and skills was focused. How successful and useful Training was can be judged by participants statements: “..I had wonderful time here, this was the cape of Good Hope...I was an ‘old barge’, but I gained new knowledge and now I ‘modern yacht with superior technology’ “; “… it seem like everything is somehow right and clear, now. This was just what I needed.” “I think this will be very useful in my future professional work.” “…this was a journey from ‘nothing’ to something very significant.”

"I VOTE FOR GAME"

"Hajde da…" Group and Civil Association "Dar" in cooperation with CARE International Yugoslavia organized and realized local action "Glasam za IGRU" ("I Vote for GAME"), 29th September, 2002.

This action was aimed to claim every children's right to play (disregarding sex, race, nationality, state of health) and to emphasize significance of games and playing during childhood.

The event was supposed to take place in Botanic garden "Jevremovac", but because of bad weather conditions we had to change location; so, finally it was organized at two spots – Children's Hospital in Tiršova street and in Roma Community Center "8. april" in Mali Mokri Lug.

For several hours nearly hundred children were playing, dancing, drawing, painting, making dolls and creating «theatre« play...

In that way children of majority population, Romany children and children with special needs were all equal in playing. What's most important, the parents were also included – by showing respect for their children's choice they also voted for game...

“ALPHABET OF TOLERANCE” II
After “Alphabet of Tolerance” project had been succesfully conducted in Desanka Maksimovic primary school, “Hajde da...” initiated new set of workshops with same contents in another Belgrade school. It is “Stari grad” primary school and the program is being organized simoultaneouslly in all 5th, 6th and 7th grade classes.

This program, as it is already known, is treating issues such as discrimination, prejudices, violence, cooperation, acceptance and constructive ways of dealing with differences... The workshops will be organized once a week till the end of fall semester...

CONFERENCE ABOUT REFORM OF EDUCATION IN SERBIA

"Hajde da..." Group participated in Conference about Reform of Education in Serbia, organized by Ministry of Education and Sports in Belgrade, 5th-7th September. Aim of this meeting was to promote achieved improvements of school system in public and to get some feedback information (from teachers and other professionals from this field) about realization of those changes. Achieving better communication was also a priority for schools, Ministry and NGOs.

"Hajde da..." Group promoted "Alphabet of Tolerance" program at its stand at Program Stock. This particular program (along with "Alphabet of Feelings") got credentials of Ministry of Education and it's being succesfully realized in Belgrade schools. These two programs were very noticed and we had many contacts with schools willing to educate teachers through these programs.

GOOD GOVERNANCE AND ANTICORRUPTION FOR THE YOUTH

“Hajde da…” Group has been participating in project of World Bank Institute – Good governance and anticoruption for the youth for two months. The project is organized in the premises of British Council in Belgrade. It's a series of video conferences treating corruption as topic. Beside Yugoslavs, young people from Africa (Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia), Russia, Ukraine and USA are also participating. “Hajde da…” Group is represented by Darko M. Sokovi and Suna Ibrahimi, participants of our previous seminar – Youth policy, peace education and participation in Yugoslavia.

Good governance and anticoruption for the youth is two year project and this video conference is its first phase that will last till December. Second and third phase will be organized during 2003. Second phase will be internet training course and third phase will be organized in form of social action in local communities of seminar participants, as a final use of acquired knowledge and skills.

TRAINING FOR PSYCHO-SOCIAL WORK 2


"Hajde da..." Group organized another (second) Training for Psycho Social Work with groups of children and young people, 22nd-28th July 2002. It is an educational training, intended for young people of different professional profiles who are engaged (or will be engaged) in activities of NGOs working with groups of children and young people.

This time Training was organized as an intensive course (6 working days) in "Jezero", hotel in lovely environment of Borsko jezero (Lake of Bor).

Topics treated were related to skill of non violent communication, techniques of workshop method and basic elements of NGO management. Next training of this type will be organized during November. Further information about this training will be set on this site.

Anti Burn-out in Croatia

PRONI Croatia invited "Hajde da…" training team to deliver a 3-day training course aimed at Burn-out prevention, team building and overcoming existing problems at work. The training participants were PRONI employees working in youth clubs in Slavonija and Baranja. The training happened in Pirovac, Croatia between July 12th and 14th.

Conflict Transformation in South of Serbia

Training in nonviolent communication and creative conflict transformation, organized by the Creative Center "Caribrod", was held between June 28 th and July 7th 2002 in Zvonacka Banja, South Serbia.
The training was aimed at NGO activists, representatives of media, political parties and the local community coming from Nis, Dimitrovgrad, Pirot and its surroundings. Members of the training team were: Rozeta Aleksov (KCC), Bosa Janjusevic (Azin), Vladimir Krstic (Panonski Postpesimisti) and Darko Markovic (Grupa "Hajde da…"). The project was financially supported by Council of Europe's "Confidence Building Measures" Program.

PROGRAM OF NON VIOLENT COMUNICATION
“Hajde da…” group organized and conducted course in non violent communication during May and June, as a result of invitation by Federal Ministry of National and Ethnical Groups.

The course was conducted in the premises of Multicultural Center, Zmaj Jovina 13, in form of three day intensives (two of them). It was the chance for participants (students and other young people) to learn about techniques of deeper self perception, better understanding of others and constructive ways of dealing with conflicts.

We would like to thank all the participants for their devotion and spreading the idea of non violence and peace. The workshops were conducted by Suzana Krstic i Marko Pejovic.

SCOUTBOY HANDBOOK

From June to August 2002, "Hajde da..." group will be working on a project of creating Scout Boy Handbook, in cooperation with CRS (Catholic Relief Services) and Yugoslav Scout Boy Association.

This handbook is intended for age 15-18 and deals with relevant topics such as: conflicts, non violent communication, prejudices, identity, team work, intercultural phenomena… During four day meeting that took place in Rajac representatives of these three organizations exchanged information and set concept of work for following process of creating the Handbook.

"COMPLETELY COMMON DAY"
June 1, 2002, Youth Council of Serbia organized and realized youth day named “Completely Common Day”.

The event took place at Trg Republike and it was an opportunity for various youth organizations to present their programs and activities. "Hajde da…" group presentation included nice and merry stand and short speech. T

he basic aims and methods of our work were mentioned along with the most significant projects we realized so far.

“YOUTH POLITICS, PEACE EDUCATION AND PARTICIPATION” SEMINAR
“Hajde da…” group is glad and proud to inform public that after several months of extreme efforts group successfully organized and conducted “Youth Politics, Peace Education and Participation” seminar in the premises of British Council, May 25-28, 2002. Mark Taylor and Ph.D. Howard Williamson were the trainer team.

The participants were: representatives of local NGOs, Ministry of Education and Sports, representatives of Federal Sports and Youth Department, professors and school psychologists and secondary school students. Our initiative was supported from very beginning by Ministry of Education and Sports experts! We would like to thank lecturers, participants, those who supported us and ourselves!

WE CREATE THE TIME WE LIVE IN
is the title of conference organized in Beograd May 17, 2002, attended by 56 representatives of youth NGOs.

This meeting was crucial step in development of cooperation between non government and government institutions on the topics of youth problems in Yugoslavia today.

Presentations of Federal Sports and Youth Department and several NGOs were arranged and important topics (such as education, family, unemployment and attitude of the government towards young people) were discussed with government representatives. Representatives of some donation organizations were present, as well.

As usually, stand of “Hajde da…” group was very noticeable and a lot of people showed interest for activities of the group. This conference took place in Tolstojeva 2 and was organized by Federal Sports and Youth Department and Gradanska inicijativa.

CREDENTIALS FOR “ALPHABET OF FEELINGS” AND “ALPHABET OF TOLERANCE”

Two of our programs got credentials of Ministry of Education, meaning that they are officially recomended to primary and secondary schools as adequate additions to regular teaching.

“Alphabet of feelings – education and implemetation” is program aimed to encourage the teachers in their proffessional roles through increase of their sensitivity and competence for successful integration of cognitive and emotional development of children. Program is supposed to improve consciousness of teachers about their role and to expand their self respect. Through series of workshops this program qualifies teachers to develop and demonstrate greater sensitivity for psychological needs of students and encourages them to include emotional aspect of children and young people into school practice.

• The basic aim of “Alphabet of tolerance – education and implementation” program is to increase sensitivity and competence of teachers for understanding of certain social phenomena (such as prejudices, stereotypes, discrimination, social distance, intolerance of differences…) and to enable development of skills necessary in creating an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding among school children.

“ALPHABET OF TOLERANCE”

original peace education program, aimed for elementary school children, was successfully realized as pilot project in “Desanka Maksimovic” primary school.

Psychological-educative workshops were attended by approximately 50 fourth grade children, during period February-May 2002. This project is a result of long and fruitful cooperation of “Hajde da…” group with NPA in field of help and support to the marginal groups, in this case Romannies.

The aim of this project was to diminish social distance between Romany and non Romany children through basic peace education.

“CUCKOO EGGS”

is the name of mutual project of "Hajde da..." group, ‘Center za pomoc mladim’ association (Ljubljana) and ‘Mirovni Inštitut’ (Ljubljana). It was realized at the beginning of May 2002.

The project is dealing with youth problems and possible ways of solving them. The method of work applied with these young people was method of interactive and creative workshops. Twenty young people from Slovenija and Serbia were gathered in a camp in Ankaran.

Final presentation of the project and participants’ work was organized in Ljubljana, May 6, 2002. Another “Cuckoo Eggs” project is planed for next year.

TOLERANCE IN THE FIELD
In cooperation with Federal Ministry of National and Ethnic Groups trainers of “Hajde da..” group participated in “Tolerance in the Field” project.

During visits to multiethnic communities, organized by Ministry, “Hajde da…” trainers conducted several workshops titled “Identity, National Identity and Living Together”. Workshop participants were representatives of local community (local authorities, political parties, NGOs, media).

The workshops were organized in Bosilegrad, April 20 and Backi Petrovac, April 27.

TRAINING FOR PSYCHO SOCIAL WORK WITH
GROUPS OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
During February and March 2002 trainer team of “Hajde da…” group realized first ‘Training for Psycho Social Work with Groups of Children and Young People’.

Participants of this training were NGO activists, volunteers and students of social sciences interested in active joining the search for solutions of problems (endangered) groups of children and young people are facing.
Regarding the need for this kind of training (great number of application forms) and statements of participants at the end of the training (“..acquired knowledge and experience will be more than useful in their further work”, “…the training itself contributed a lot to increase of professional motivation”) “Hajde da…” trainer team will organize and conduct series of ‘Trainings for Psycho-Social Work’ in following period.
