ENDING UP OF SET OF TRAININGS WITHIN PROJECT «NON-FORMAL
EDUCATION IN EUROPE» |
|
december 2005.
By the end of November, there have been ended up the last
two of 10 trainings
«Non-formal Education in Europe
– a Step Toward Recognition in Serbia and Montenegro»,
organized and realized by «Hajde da...» Group, during past
two months, throughout Serbia and Montenegro. We've been talking
about position of non-formal education in our country, current
trends in this field in Europe, as well as about steps to
take towards better recognition and validation of non-formal
education in Belgrade,
Subotica, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Uzice, Nis and Podgorica.
Also people from other towns (Zrenjanin, Guca, Backa Topola,
Đurdin, Novi Kneževac...) have participated in almost every
training; news about this project and the trainings has been
put on several web sites; there have been published the three
articles in «Prosvetni pregled» newspaper, so we are sure
that the number of those who have been reached by the idea
of necessity of recognition of non-formal education in Serbia
and Montenegro is quite larger than the official data we have.
According to our data-base, there have been over
160 persons who took part in trainings in the 7 towns.
Our main target groups were representatives of governmental
bodies (Ministry of Education and Sports and Ministy of Labour,
Employement and Social Policy), National Employement Service,
formal-educational institutions, media, NGOs, scientific institutes,
institutions for adult education, but everyone who sees the
importance of non-formal education and is willing to work
on its promotion was wellcomed, so we also had representatives
of the Red Cross, Scouts Organizastion, business sector etc.
We will continue our work
on the promotion of non-formal education. Some of our very
next steps in that direction are organizing the Dialogue Day,
in cooperation with Forum Syd Balkans, and publishing the
set of reccomendations for recognition of non-formal education,
came as outputs from the realized trainings.

| YOUTH
IN ACTION ! |
WHY? We’ve asked youngsters:
What is the concrete thing
that you want to change in your surroundings?
Maybe that would be the they (don’t) participate in
the life of their city and making decisions that are connected
to them; maybe that would be a problem in their surroundings,
that now lasts for a long time because they didn’t manage
o find people who’d share their ideas; maybe they’re
not sure how to do that in their own town...
An NGO “Hajde da...”
from Belgrade and “Forum
for Civil Action” (FORCA) from Pozega initiated
an action that will include young people from Novi Beograd
and Pozega, giving them the opportunity to find out how can
they participate in life
of their city, how can they cooperate
with local institutions, NGOs, how can they plan
and implement actions for improving young people’s
life in their community.
By this program, we want to support
the young in their efforts to contribute to development of
the cities they live in, in order to create
the society that will appreciate proactivity, initiative,
cooperation, creativity...of youngsters.
Young people, aged 17-25,
who will take part in this program, will have the opportunity
to learn on the real examples of the youth groups from other
parts of Serbia, to discuss with the representatives of local
government, acquire knowledge and skills that are necessary
for creating and implementing of small projects in local communities
and, finally, they’ll be also financially supported
in realization of their local actions.
METHODOLOGY AND PROGRAM DYNAMICS
Program is consisted of:
- education for active
citizenship – that will take place in Soko Banja,
August 7th-14th, 2005 for 40 young people from Pozega and
Novi Beograd;
- planning and preparation
of local actions - (September and part of October)
- realization of youth
local actions in Pozega and Novi Beograd - (part of
October and November)
Perticipants are obliged to actively participate during the
whole project. Those who successfully complete the Program
will get the certificate of the participation in the Program.
Project is supported by Balkan

| "BECAUSE
IT’S DIFFERENT" |
... is realized DURING FEBRUARY AND MARCH
OF 2005, as a part of the project “Alphabet
of Tolerance for the Young”.
Program is offering the possibility for learning and developing
basic intercultural skills, attitudes and values. The idea for
this program has been arising gradually – the first step was
work of the “Hajde da…” Group with children in Roma Center “April
8th”.
A set of educational psychological workshops was originally
meant for primary school children and later it spread to working
with teachers through the “Alphabet of Tolerance – Education
and Implementation”, that had got credential of Ministry of
Education and Sports of Republic of Serbia. Based on our previous
experience in working with children and teachers and as an answer
to the need of young people to be proactive in their communities,
we’ve created a pilot program, meant for youngsters and namet
it “Because It’s Different!”.
This program offers a chance for learning and developing of
basic intercultural skills, attitudes and values.
Main themes and phenomena treated by the program are:
discrimination, prejudices, stereotypes, distribution of power,
human rights etc. Participants were 39 young people, aged 16-25.
Project consisted of four days of interactive workshops; participant
showed a high level of motivation for active participation,
share their experiences and contribute to quality of the learning
process.
They were particularly satisfied with the topics and the way
they were dealt with. Visits
that were organized were an extra value of this program: they
were nice opportunity for gaining more intercultural experiences.
The first visit was to the “Old Belgrade Town”, where, at the
very beginning of the program, we had the opportunity to learn
more about the multicultural reality of Belgrade and get to
know the fact that its contemporary looks was influenced by
Romans, Turks, Austro-Hungarians… During the second visit, we
saw the Bajrakli Mosque, Jewish Municipality, synagogue, Russian
Orthodox Church and Catholic Church, where our hosts (some of
whom were the participants of our program themselves) introduced
us with political attitudes, believing, legends, customs and
traditional holiday meals characteristic for their religion.
The third visit took place in the British Council, where our
guests from NGO “Enfants” from Berane, Montenegro, presented
their activities and work in the field of supporting inhabitants
of Roma settlements in Berane and Rozaj to include themselves
in formal-educational system and complete primary and secondary
school, in order to have larger possibilities to find a job
and accomplish their rights.
Results of final evaluation,
at the end of the program, showed that change has been attained
– young people who participated our program afterwards had better
understanding of phenomena such as: prejudices, discrimination,
stereotypes.
They learnt a lot about human rights and their attitudes concerning
minority groups and “differences” became more tolerant. Participants
also became more aware of the fact that there are numerous minorities
living in Belgrade and that they face lots of problems in their
everyday life.
It is especially important that many of the participants were
motivated for continuation of working themselves, feeling that
there are various ways for initiating a non-violent action against
discrimination in their communities. |

ESTABLISHING
OF THE FIRST CENTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH IN COMMUNITY
IN SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO |
IN
FEBRUARY OF 2005 "HAJDE DA..." GROUP JOINED THE PROCESS OF REFORM
OF MENTAL HEALTH CARE
This reform is implemented by Ministry
for Health of Republic of Serbia i.e. National Commission
for Mental Health.
From the very beginning, the initiative is professionally and
financially supported by Caritas
Italiana.
Except for the proposal for the new Law on Mental Health Care,
one of the most important steps in the reform process is establishing
the first Center for Mental Health in Community, aimed to make
life of persons with mental health problems as quality as possible.
To its beneficiaries, Center would provide:
- permanent controlling of their health,
- mobile team care (including continuous contact with families),
- help to keep their working ability,
- informing of the wider community with an aim to fight prejudices
concerning mental diseases and persons who have mental health
problems i.e. to diminish the distance between persons with
mental health problems and wider community,
- support to include this persons into wider community...
The first center of
this kind in our country is about to established in Nis. By
closing one of the asylum hospital departments in the Special
Psychiatry Hospital in Gornja Toponica, conditions were
set for some of the staff to star working in city zone, in Center
for Mental Health, named “Medijana”,
after the municipality where it is placed. ”Hajde
da…” Group trainers took part in empowering professionals of
various profiles who would work in “Medijana”, to give their
contribution to the mental health care and improving quality
of living of future beneficiaries of the Center.
There were realized the four (of seven) training modules so
far with future staff of the Center.
The participants had the opportunity
to:
- deepen their previous professional and personal relationships,
- reflect upon quality of the cooperation they want to achieve
in their future team work,
- express their feelings that came as a consequence of change
caused by establishing of the Center,
- create the vision of their future work,
- think of the first steps toward its accomplishment.
We thank for cooperation
to dr Milan Stanojkovic (the
principal of the Special Psychiatry Hospital in Gornja Toponica
and founder of the future Center), Gaia
Montelatici (Program Manager in Caritas Italiana), dr
Dusica Lecic-Tosevski (the principal of the Institute
for Mental Health in Belgrade and president of National Commission
for Mental Health) and, of course, to all
the participants of the seminar. |

Bridges for Recognition of Youth Work is a European Event which
brought together youth workers, trainers, non-formal and formal
learning organisers, social partners from the labour market
and policy makers, to take further steps towards the recognition
of non-formal learning and youth work.
Bridges for Recognition wants to stimulate the recognition of
youth work and of the skills millions of young people gain through
participating in youth activities.
It could mean another chance for young people to find their
place in society, to embark on further education or to get a
job! Our role on the Bridges for Recognition was to present
a good practice of recognition of non-formal education.
Particulary, we presented teacher training “Alphabet of Tolerance
