| PRIZE
FroM COUNCIL OF EUROPE and EUROPEAN COMMISSION FOR ONE EPISODE
OF THE ANIMATED SERIAL "IT'S SO UNFAIR" |
| 13. november
2006.
|
COUNCIL OF EUROPE and EUROPEAN COMMISSION
has jointly announced that ”HAJDE DA…” GROUP from
Belgrade was one of the winners of the
video competition in the framework of DOSTA! - Campaign
for fighting prejudice towards the Roma. One
episode of the animated
serial It’s so unfair! won the third prize
at this competition as the best short video. The award
was given to Mr. Marko Pejovic at the official ceremony,
which took place in Strasbourg, on November 7th (more
information could be found at http://dosta.org/?q=node/111)
The animated cartoon It’s so
unfair! (http://www.hajdeda.org.yu/unfair/index.htm
) is a unique educational tool for peace/intercultural
education of primary school children and youth, which
addresses the phenomena like prejudice, discrimination,
violence and tolerance. This serial was developed
as a part of the teacher training program The Alphabet
of tolerance, that „Hajde da...“ Group have been successfully
implementing in primary schools in Serbia, for the
past 6 years (www.hajdeda.org.yu/aot/index.htm).
As an example of good practice for education against
discrimination at school, UNICEF included this serial
in its national wide programme „School without violence“.
Last year “Hajde da…” Group created also a manual
on how to use the serial in education, and plans to
train more teachers and youth workers for its implementation
in 2007, thus continuing to support the process of
development of more tolerant and inclusive society.

| Alphabet
of Tolerance |
| “HAJDE
DA...” GROUP has been implementing the “Alphabet
of Tolerance” program since 2001, in primary
schools throughout Serbia. The main idea of this program is
to educate school personnel (teachers, psychologists, pedagogues...)
for successful running of workshops for children, aiming to:
• help children to achieve basic knowledge and experiences
of tolerance to differences
• support cooperation and mutual respect within classes.
We’re happy to announce that, so far, we’ve been
collaborating with 36 schools;
there are 285 teachers/
psychologists/ pedagogues who attended the training
and approx. 3000 children
participating the workshops.
Since the year of 2005, an animated series “Down
With Injustice!” was added to the program, as
an educative tool for working with children. The series deals
with phenomena such as prejudices, discrimination, violence,
but also tolerance and cooperation within the school context.
As far as we know, this is the first cartoon for peace education
in our country.
This year we made another innovation: at the end of realization
of the program, schools that have been included in the project
have organized actions, aiming to promote values of cooperation
and tolerance. Between January and June of 2006, the four
schools have been included in the project: “Svetozar
Markovic” (Leskovac), “Dimitrije Tucovic”
(Kraljevo), “Velimir Markicevic” (Majdanpek) and
“Servo Mihalj” (Zrenjanin). Group from Banatsko
Karadjordjevo (schools "Nikola Tesla" and "Petar
Kocic") begin their education in spring.
School action
in Majdanpek dealt
with conflicts between pupils of “Velimir Markicevic”
and the neighboring school. The main outcome was a play, that
metaphorically treated this issue and the actors were pupils
from both schools. There was also held a football tournament,
before the play, and each of the participating teams was composed
of children from the two schools. Moreover, some days before
the main event, children had an opportunity to create drawings
subjecting “The World I’d Like To Live In”,
that were exposed in the Youth Center on the day of action.
In Kraljevo, it
was meant that the school action shell include the youth’s
favorite way of expressing, so there was an open call for
all students, inviting them to express their non-violent messages
through graffiti. Painting of the school yard started on 5th
of June – World Environment Day.
Group from Leskovac
organized a workshop in Roma Cultural Center, for children
for all 8 primary schools in Leskovac. They created posters
subjecting more tolerant relationships among people. The posters
left in the Cultural Center, as an exhibition of children’s
ideas.
Evaluation*
at the end of the project showed (these are some of the results):
• 94,6% of teachers claim that participating in the
“Alphabet of Tolerance” program helped them to
solve negative social situations within their classes (violence,
discrimination etc.) more constructively.
• Children’s ability to recognize discrimination
increased from 63%, before the program, up to 90% after its
implementation.
• Before the workshops, 38% of children claimed that
they’re friends with all the other pupils from their
class (i.e. that they do not exclude anybody), whilst afterwards
this percentage rose up to 58%.
• Asked if they’d accept in their class and/or
school children of different origin and/or customs (nation,
language, religion...), the percentage of acceptance was high
from the start (77,00%), but it increased even more –
up to 85,89%.
• When asked if they’d mind to be best friends
with a child of different origin and/or customs (nation, language,
religion...), after the program, there came to an advancement
of more than 13% of children.
* Evaluation is based on groups from Majdanpek
Kraljevo, Leskovac and Zrenjanin

EXCHANGE in Greece “ONE MORE STEP” |
| jun, 2006.
During the last week of May, in Kastoria, Greece, there was
held a youth exchange "One More Step". Partner organizations
on this project were: “Citizens
in Action” from Greece, “EcoART” from Bulgaria,
“XENA” from Italy, CPM from Slovenia, “Rubikon”
from Macedonia and “Hajde da…” Group from
Serbia.
Zeljka, Ceca, Ljuba, Nikola i Jelena had an opportunity to
meet and make friends, learn and explore, enjoy natural beauties
and hospitality of our Greek hosts, along with their peers
from Slovenia, Macedonia, Italy and Bulgaria.
Some 30 young people dealt with the problem of pollution of
Lake of Kastoria and environmental issues in general, trying,
at the same time, to motivate local youngsters to overcome
their initial passivity and move them towards joint action
for saving the Lake.
Having in mind that this exchange was held within European
Commission’s YOUTH Programme and thanks to the
fact that the young from six European countries have been
living together in scouts’ hostel for the seven days,
this was also an outstanding opportunity for intercultural
learning and meeting customs and traditions of different cultures
and nations.
We arrived back to Belgrade with marvelous impressions and
memories, new friends’ contacts, lots of photos and
a wish and plans to gather together again next year.

| On February 17th, 2006,
in "Metropol" Hotel in Belgrade, organized
by "Hajde da..."
Group and Forum
Syd Balkans Programme, there was held a Dialogue
Day, entitled "Streams Of Future Development Of
Non-Formal Education - Another Step Towards Its Recognition
In Serbia And Montenegro".
This event was meant as a place for dialogue between
representatives of relevant local and regional organizations,
Ministry of Education and Sports of Republic of Serbia,
Ministry of Education and Science of Republic of Montenegro,
National Employment Service, formal-educational institutions,
media etc.
The guests were welcomed by Ms.
Mia Sidran (FSBP), Mrs. Stanislava Vuckovic (“Hajde
da..." Group), Ms. Mirjana Milanovic (Ministry
of Education and Sports of Republic of Serbia) and Mr.
Dragan Popadic (Belgrade University).
Leaping from international towards local level, we were
discussing importance
of non-formal education, linked to current European
trends and the situation in Serbia and Montenegro in
the field, as well as its connections with youth policies
and youth work. Recognizing their institutional,
organizational and personal interests, all the key actors
expressed their willingness to cooperate on further
affirmation, quality advancement and development of
non-formal education.
There was also promoted a
Set of Recommendations, as one of main and most
important outcomes of the project "Non-Formal Education
In Europe - A Step Towards Integration Of Serbia And
Montenegro Into Common European Educational Space".
These recommendations stress out the importance of social
partnerships, standardization of non-formal education
and quality assurance in the field. During the Dialogue
Day there was also emphasized necessity of further promotion
and informing wider audience about this form of education.
These conclusions are to be guidelines for participants’

EDUCATION IN EXECUTIVE ASSEMBLY OF VOJVODINA |
Project: "NFE
In Europe - A Step Towards Integration On Serbia And Montenegro
Into Common European Educational Space"
Initiated by Ms. Jovana Kulauzov and Mr. Vladimir Kozbasic
from Regional Secretariat for Sport and Youth, on January
31st, 2006 in Executive Assembly of Vojvodina, there was
held a seminar on "Recognition of Non-Formal Education
in Europe". "Hajde da..." Group’s
trainers, Jelena Jovanovic and Darko Markovic, and the
representatives of various departments discussed the project
"NFE In Europe - A Step Towards Integration On Serbia
And Montenegro Into Common European Educational Space",
NFE as such, current European trends and the situation
in the field, in Serbia and Montenegro. Work groups dealt
with how to support the process of recognition of NFE
in Vojvodina issue.
The participants were representatives from the following
departments: Education and Culture, Information, health
care and social policy, Regulations, administration and
ethnic minorities, Local government and cross-municipal
cooperation, Demography, family and social care about
children, Labor, employment and gender equality, Regional
and international cooperation, Regional Ombudsman’s
Office and the Executive Assembly.
This was the first time that a seminar on NFE took place
in a governmental institution. Both participants and trainers
were very satisfied with how it went and we can take this
as one more proof of the fact that inter-sector cooperation
is not only possible, but also very fruitful!
