General Project Information

Project is meant for:
- Primary target group: teachers, professors, experts (pedagogues, psychologists) and other teaching-staff
- Secondary target group: children aged 9 to 12
- Project indirectly tackles parents whose children are involved in the Project, citizens who live at Vracar Municipality, as well as wider audience, who will be informed on project activities and values that are the base of the “It’s So Unfair!” program.

Project objectives:
- enhancing participants’ knowledge on social phenomena, such as : prejudices, discrimination, violence, tolerance and cooperation
- improving participants’ (teaching staff) skills to use animated material as a supplementary educational tool, that contributes to sensitizing children to recognize the aforementioned phenomena in their immediate surroundings and develop constructive responses upon those.

Ultimate project goal is to decrease incidence of violent acts and discrimination, especially in school context.

Partners on the project: primary schools “Sinisa Nikolajevic”, “Dusan Dugalic”, “Vladislav Ribnikar” and “Svetozar Markovic”.

Project activities:

• Establishing cooperation with schools that will be included in project
• Delivering a training course for teaching staff
• Teacher-participants run the 6 workshops with groups of children in their schools
• Design and printing of promotional materials
• Supervisory meetings (“Hajde da...” Group’s trainers visit teachers who have run the workshops with children)
• Preparation of wrapping-up event, planned for December 10th – International Human Rights Day

Delivering a training course for teaching staff

On October 19th-21st, 2007, there was a training course delivered for teacher-participants from the four primary schools, involved in the project. The course lasted for 2 and a half days and was an opportunity for participants to get introduced with objectives and specificities of the “It’s So Unfair!” program.

The first part of the course was to sensitize participants and increase their level of understanding certain social phenomena the program deals with – prejudices, discrimination, violence, tolerance, cooperation.
This was followed by introduction of basics about interactive group work methodology, as well as other skills that are necessary for successful implementation of this program with children (such as: communication skills, conflict transformation and so forth).

Participants were very satisfied, especially as they had an opportunity to exchange experiences with their colleagues, to gain concrete knowledge and skills on how to use animated material, that they can immediately apply in their everyday work with children, as well as they were pleased to “treat these phenomena through an animated series, that children very much appreciate”.

The next step is for participants to run the 6 workshops with children aged 9-12, in their schools. Each of the workshops is followed by one episode of an animated series “It’s So Unfair!”.

Financially supported by City Municipality of Vracar, Belgrade.

Non-Formal Education in Europe – a Step Towards

July 24th, 2007.

As a follow up to the "Non-Formal Education in Europe – a Step Towards Integration of Serbia Into the Common European Educational Space"
(www.hajdeda.org.yu/nfe/index.htm), that has been implemented during 2005/06, representatives of “Hajde da...” Group visited Estonia (July 17th-22nd, 2007) and participated into the Summit on Non-Formal Learning. The event was organized and financially supported by Estonian National Agency for European Commission’s "Youth in Action" Programme.

Sixteen participants coming from Estonia, Croatia, Belgium and Serbia gathered together, aiming to exchange experiences and examples of good practices in their prior work on non-formal education recognition, define possible future steps in the field in their respective countries and develop plans for relevant further joint actions on the European level. Participants represented CSOs, formal educational institutions, relevant European bodies, adult education institutes, youth NGOs, professional associations and so forth.

After the initiative that has been undertaken by "Hajde da..." Group in 2005/06, on the national level, that included representatives of all three sectors (civil, public and for-profit), who might be interested and/or could contribute to affirmation of concepts of life-long learning and non-formal education, we believe that this Summit and its outcomes can be relevant for all the aforementioned key actors.

Therefore, the report on it will be available soon, in e-form, at “Hajde da... “ Group’s official web site (www.hadeda.org.yu).

On arrival training for evs

23. February 2007.

On Arrival Training for evs,
in Belgrade, 15-18. March 2007

For any questions and applications please write to onarrival@hajdeda.org.yu

EVS On-arrival training
The main objective of the on-arrival training is to introduce volunteers to their host country and their project environment.
On arrival training supports volunteers in responding to (inter)cultural and personal challenges, allowing volunteers in the region to get to know each other and build a mutual support network. The On arrival training helps volunteers think about their EVS as a learning process and should provide them with opportunity to define their learning objectives.

In case of the On-arrival training, timing is of utmost importance. Ideally, the on-arrival training is organized within 4 weeks after the arrival of the volunteer in a form of a residential course. If the on-arrival training takes place long time after the arrival of the volunteer, it will appear as a meaningless appointment.

Possible content elements (topics) for the On-arrival training:
- Information about the host country and the host culture (or host countries and cultures in case of a regional training)
- Elements of the language training (basic phrases in the host country language)
- Understanding intercultural learning processes and ways of dealing with cultural diversity
- Conflict managemnet and conflict transformation skills
- EVS as a learning process
- Setting personal learning objectives for the voluntary service period
- Rights and responsibilties of the project partners and all involved (sending organization, host organization, volunteer, supervisor, mentor)
- Understanding of volunteering and what it means to be a European volunteer

For more information and references about previous On-arrival training courses done by our trainers, see the reports on
the SALTO website at http://www.salto-youth.net/seeEVS/
or visit "Hajde da..." Group webpage at http://www.hajdeda.org.yu/youth/index.htm#1
